## How do I convert an Excel spreadsheet to PDF for free?

Add the .xlsx, .xls or .csv file to Mergevanta's Excel to PDF tool, choose Fit to page width or Actual size, and press Convert to PDF. Every visible sheet is laid out like Excel's printout, with number formats, borders and merged cells, and you download the PDF free with no watermark.

## Key facts

- **Price:** Free
- **Watermark:** None
- **Sign-up:** Not required
- **Accepts:** .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls, .csv, .tsv
- **You get:** A print-ready .pdf
- **Processing:** Encrypted server for files up to 4 MB, your browser for larger ones
- **Files stored:** Never
- **Works on:** Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android

## Why use Mergevanta

- **Looks like Excel's printout:** Number formats, fonts, fills, borders, merged cells, column widths and row heights carry over, and pages follow Excel's own order.
- **No more cut-off columns:** Fit to page width keeps every column on the page; long sheets simply continue on the next pages.
- **Respects your print setup:** Print areas, repeated title rows, page breaks, headers and footers saved in the file are used, and hidden rows and sheets stay hidden.
- **Private by design:** Files are encrypted end to end and converted in memory, or converted in your browser when they're large. Nothing is stored.

## How to use it

1. Press Choose spreadsheet and pick an .xlsx, .xls or .csv file, or drop it on the page.
2. Under Page setup, choose Fit to page width or Actual size, then the orientation and paper size.
3. Pick All sheets or Active sheet only, and turn on Print gridlines if you want cell lines.
4. Press Convert to PDF, then Download.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where is my spreadsheet converted?

Files up to 4 MB are sent to Mergevanta's server encrypted end to end, converted in memory and deleted right away. Larger files are converted in your browser, which keeps values, number formats, column widths, merged cells and fills but simplifies fonts and borders.

### Will formulas show their results?

Yes. The PDF shows each formula's last calculated result — the value Excel displays. Files written by programs that never calculate formulas can have blank results; open them in Excel, save, and convert again.

### How do I stop columns being split across pages?

Choose Fit to page width. All columns are scaled to fit across the page, and Auto orientation turns the page to landscape when that makes the text larger.

### Are charts and pictures included?

Pictures placed on the sheet are included. Charts, shapes and text boxes aren't drawn yet, and the result tells you when something was left out.

### Can I convert a password-protected workbook?

A workbook that needs a password to open can't be read. Remove the password in Excel (File → Info → Protect Workbook), save, and convert it again. Sheets that are only protected from editing convert normally.

### Does it work with CSV and old .xls files?

Yes. Excel 97–2003 .xls files are read directly, and CSV or TSV files become a neatly sized table with gridlines turned on.
