## How do I convert a Word document to PDF for free?

Add the .docx file to Mergevanta's Word to PDF tool, keep the document's own page setup or pick A4 or Letter, and press Convert. You get a PDF with fonts, tables, images, lists, headers and footers in place — free, with no watermark and no sign-up.

## Why use Mergevanta

- **Looks the same everywhere:** A PDF renders identically in any viewer, which is exactly what you want before sending a contract, report or résumé.
- **Full formatting carried across:** Styles, fonts, colours, tables with merged cells, images, numbered and bulleted lists, footnotes, headers and footers all appear in the PDF.
- **Lines break like Word:** Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times New Roman and Courier New are matched with metric-compatible fonts, so text wraps where Word wraps it.
- **Nothing is kept:** Your document is converted in memory and the PDF is sent straight back to your browser. Nothing is stored or logged.

## How to use it

1. Drop in one or more .docx files, or browse to pick them.
2. Keep "Same as document" or choose a page size and orientation to override it.
3. Press Convert and the PDF is laid out page by page.
4. Press Download and send it on — it opens the same on every device.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Word formats can be converted?

Both .doc (Word 97–2003) and .docx, plus .docm and .dotx. Old .doc files are read directly — no need to re-save them first.

### Will images, tables and charts be included?

Images, tables, lists, headers, footers, footnotes and page numbers are included. Charts, SmartArt and EMF/WMF drawings are not drawn yet — save those as pictures in Word first.

### Will my fonts look the same?

Common Office fonts are swapped for metric-compatible open fonts, so spacing and line breaks match. Rare or decorative fonts fall back to a close standard font.

### Does it support non-Latin text?

Latin, Greek and Cyrillic text renders fully. Scripts that need complex shaping, such as Hindi or Arabic, may not join correctly yet.

### Is there a size limit?

Our server takes up to 4 MB per conversion. When a .docx is larger because of its pictures, they are scaled down in your browser first so the full-quality converter can still be used; a basic text-only conversion in your browser is the last resort.
